Ain't Nobody...

All i ever wanted was to make music, perform and enjoy it.

What started out as fun subtly transformed into pride. During the first semester of my freshman year in college I stopped rapping a lot. When people who knew I rapped would see me they would constantly say, "Carle do a rap for me! When are you going to start back rapping?"... Thus was born a rap I wrote at the age of 18 entitled "Ain't Nobody Tight Like Me". It's the record one of Doctor Dre's scouts seen me perform. I never officially released it because I ended up becoming a believer and was conflicted internally with many questions. One being, how would God get glory from that kind of song?

Here's what the first verse said:

After listening to the first verse would you have asked yourself the same question? How could God get the glory from that verse? It's FULL OF PRIDE. The more God's word began to change me on the inside the more I didn't want to do music anymore. And when I did do music as a believer, I never exercised my full capacity because I feared becoming prideful again.

God's word says:
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.
(Proverbs 8:13)

Think about that a moment. God hates pride. Some people don't say it but they have an exaggerated opinion of their importance, talent and power. It's important to always remember, no matter how gifted and how much skill you possess, you are not God. It's a dangerous thing to set yourself up in a high place.

God is the only one who deserves to be revered and praised on a daily.

I thank God for His word continually renewing my mind. Being able to enjoy other female rappers without thinking I had to out do them was a liberating feeling. A huge weight off my shoulders indeed. I've come across MANY female rappers whose craft I appreciate. Some of the Christian ones are Chozyn, Angie Rose, Sicily, Mahogany Jones, Butta P and Erica Mason. I've also came across other females whose message I don't fully agree with but I definitely give props and respect where it's due.

Now that I am getting in the swing of exercising my full potential, I am definately on guard against pride.

Stay tuned for more flashback verses and stories to see where I've grown and where I still struggle. This year I am showcasing many sides of me artistically. Where I come from and where I plan to go. Journey with me and #LookForThe5th
